So…those Olympic Swimmers are pretty ripped, huh?
If you’re like us, you’ve been glued to the TV the past two weeks as athletes from all over the world competed at the Olympics. Their stories are incredible, and their athletic feats are often unmatched. Another amazing thing that’s tough not to notice is the physical shape that the athletes are in. Truly #MotivationMonday, right? Legendary swimmer Michael Phelps consumes 7-8 thousand calories a day. He does this to give his body the energy to?burn?3,000-10,000 calories a day, depending on the intensity of his workout. That’s insane! And nowhere near the kind of workout that you and I will do. We’re lucky to just get to the gym! So, how can we get the lean, muscular bodies of these Greek Gods, er, Olympic swimmers? Well, thanks to innovations in the plastic surgery field of body contouring, you can now get desired results without silicone implants.?According to a study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, fat removed from unwanted areas via liposuction can be re-injected into the abdominal area and contoured to create a natural-looking muscular six-pack. Here’s an excerpt from GQ on this topic: “A study (linked above)?earlier this summer claimed that ?abdominal contouring using selective lipo-contouring with fat grafting,? a technique developed by one of the study?s authors, New York plastic surgeon Douglas S. Steinbrech, achieves better-than-ever results. Steinbrech?s 45 clients who opted for the procedure showed ?improved definition of the six-pack? at the 9-month and 1-year follow-up, with fewer complications than implants typically pose. Although, to be fair, there were still complications. ?Seroma [accumulation of fluid], irregularities, infection, and seroma requiring drain placement?, are some of the issues than can arise when getting this procedure done.” So, what have we learned? There are alternative methods to doing 1,000 sit ups a day or swimming off 10,000 calories like Michael Phelps. While there are risk factors, the world of plastic surgery is evolving every day so that you too can have Olympic swimmer abs!
